Project Overview

Ipieca, a global non-governmental organisation focused on the oil, gas and alternative energy industry's environmental and social performance, selected NB to redesign its website in line with its strategic objectives. The new website features improved accessibility, intuitive content presentation methods, and a resource section with over 500 searchable items. It was crucial the overhauled site conveyed Ipieca's modern approach to environmental and social performance in the oil, gas and alternative industry and reinforced its key communications objectives to promote sustainability, strengthening Ipieca's reputation as a trusted industry leader.

We contracted NB Communication as our web developer. What we got was a whole lot more. They worked to give us a high performing, visually pleasing website that hits loads of our strategic objectives. They found out what Ipieca is all about, what we’re here to do and worked to make sure our website feeds into our purpose. We’ve since gone on to work with NB on lots of other projects. In NB, Ipieca has got a partner who genuinely cares about what we do and makes sure we have the tools to make it happen, now and in the future.

Background

Ipieca is the global oil and gas association dedicated to advancing environmental and social performance across the energy transition. It brings together members and stakeholders to lead in integrating sustainability by advancing climate action, environmental responsibility and social performance across oil, gas and renewables activities. Ipieca was founded at the request of the United Nations Environment Programme in 1974. Through its non-lobby and collaborative approach Ipieca remains the industry’s principal channel of engagement with the UN.

A comprehensive redevelopment was required to replace the existing but outdated site with a fresh-looking, high-performing site which was easy to use by site administrators and front-end visitors.

It was important that the website reinforced Ipieca’s key communications objectives and strengthened the association’s reputation as a trusted sustainability leader for the industry, promoting environmental and social performance.

Challenge

Ipieca needed a new website to share knowledge which advances the oil, gas and alternative energy industry’s sustainability performance. The site had to align with the new communications strategy, and it was crucial that all content complied with Ipieca’s and members’ brand propositions, consolidating their positions as industry leaders.

The existing site CMS was inefficient and as part of the redesign there was a requirement to migrate to a more flexible, more efficient system, with improved usability.

It was also necessary to improve website performance and user experience, making it quicker and easier for members and stakeholders to find relevant information.

Solution

The whole site was migrated to our favoured CMS, which is much more responsive, intuitive, and flexible to improve administration.

Underpinned by optimised code, front-end improvements were implemented to improve performance and usability. The site’s filtering functionality was also radically improved, and we introduced intuitive language and translation management, increasing accessibility.

The website is designed with Ipieca’s four strategic pillars of climate, nature, people and sustainability in mind, with the site architecture built to reflect this consistently throughout. The homepage design allows key messages to be communicated clearly with the resources section highlighted as a CTA.

1

Dynamic Homepage

Using video in place of a hero image, the Ipieca homepage highlights various sectors the organisation operates in while keeping users engaged. Video remains one of the quickest and easiest ways to communicate with visitors.
2

Resource Library

Around 500 items which can be searched by keyword or filtered by a range of criteria aligned with Ipieca work and strategic objectives. Users can select multiple items to add to a list which they can then download all at once.
3

Pillar Pages

Ipieca's pillars are at the heart of their communication strategy. Attractive pages were created to communicate this information in an engaging and clear way.
4

Multi-language resource

Content in multiple languages can easily be added to any internal page and multiple language versions of a resource can be added.

Results

The website launched just before Ipieca week in March 2023. The website received a lot of positive feedback at the event, not just from members but wider stakeholders too - and completely unsolicited. People using the site regularly have noticed the difference, and NB continues to work alongside Ipieca to deliver SEO activities and regular reporting which will help to ensure the site remains effective and aligned with broader objectives into the future. Ipieca staff find the new website intuitive to use and easy to update, providing high-quality webpages they are proud of.
