Background
NB developed the previous Cruise Scotland site back in 2009, and we were delighted that our long term relationship with the organisation allowed us to assist them again by undertaking a full redevelopment to deliver a new, modern site which reflects the ever-growing importance of the cruise industry in Scotland.
Challenge
Cruise Scotland's previous site had been of a very high quality when initially launched, but in the ten years that had passed since, the site became visibly dated. Cruise Scotland had since developed some new ideas regarding functionality which would be useful too. They were keen to provide better exposure for their members, as well as develop some useful tools for cruise operators and itinerary planners. A redevelopment project created a clear opportunity to address some technical issues which would bring the site up to modern standards. A key upgrade would be the opportunity to make the website mobile and tablet friendly.
Solution
We worked with key members of the Cruise Scotland team to design a new and engaging homepage, as well as some of the unique internal pages. Our initial designs were met with great enthusiasm from the wider Cruise Scotland group when we pitched them at their 2019 AGM. From there, we developed the site in a bespoke content management system which would allow all members to update their own profile content, something that would be of huge benefit to the organisation. We also implemented some of the new features that were thought about in the strategy phase of the project, including a useful 'distance calculator tool', allowing cruise operators to find out the distance between Scottish ports and other popular cruise destinations around Europe.
