Burra Bears

The Original Shetland Teddy Bear - established 1997. Delightful, collectible bears handmade in the Shetland Island of Burra, produced from recycled traditional Fair Isle knitwear.

Project Overview

NB was commissioned by the successful Shetland-based teddy bear company Burra Bears to build a new creatively-led website to showcase their range of products to a global audience.

VISIT WEBSITE

I'm so delighted with the site and so is everyone else it seems from the comments. It’s certainly working all over the world! I’ve had comments from Thailand, New Zealand, Poland, Slovenia, Pittsburgh, New Mexico, Canada, Taiwan, Denmark to name a few, and not forgetting Orkney, and East Voe, Semblister and Papil in Shetland. Looks like we'll have no problem populating the map! Thanks again, I'm just delighted.

Background

Burra Bears, the original collectable Shetland teddy bear, is a company established by Wendy Inkster over 20 years ago. Now producing over 1,000 bears per year, Wendy's Burra Bears have achieved worldwide interest.

Challenge

NB’s brief was to create a visually-appealing website, which could serve as an online shop window for the Burra Bears brand.

Solution

We created an engaging and friendly new website, featuring a natural colour palette and design inspired by recycled materials and watercolours. The design reflects Burra Bears’ brand ethos of recycling worn Fair Isle jumpers and using natural Shetland wool.

The site features the following functionality:

  • Large high-resolution image galleries showcasing the range of bears and the different options clients can choose from.
  • An outlet page featuring an interactive map showing all the Burra Bears stockists.
  • Email newsletter sign-up form so users can keep up to date with the latest news and offers from Burra Bears.
  • An easy-to-use content management system which the client can manage externally, allowing them to upload regular blog content and new products.

Results

The new website has given Burra Bears a platform to promote itself internationally. Many people who had visited Shetland had become aware of the brand, but now it is more visible than ever before.
