Formed in 1943, The SWFPA is the largest fishing association in Scotland and in Europe, representing around 200 vessels and 1,400 fishermen who contribute £158 million (€200 million) to the Scottish economy.
The SWFPA needed an attractive new website to better reflect their standing in the Scottish fishing industry. Our goal was to create a site that on first appearance is very visually appealing and showcases some of the media the association has produced recently. Furthermore though, the site also had to be useful to the association’s members, as it would be a key tool in sharing important information and files amongst relevant people and organisations in the industry.
Our first step was to create a homepage which would showcase a video highlighting the fishing industry in Scotland. This serves as the perfect introduction to what both the SWFPA and their website is about, and helps get the media they’ve had created out to the public without linking them away from the SWFPA website.
For those who require it, we also created a member’s login area, where only people who are members of the association can access important and regularly updated information on things relevant to them but not the general public.
Since going live in December 2014, the SWFPA site has seen a steady increase in visitors (up 17.4% in 2016 so far) as more content has been added to it and more people become aware of the website. Furthermore, the design and simplicity of use has been warmly received by the SWFPA’s members.
