Small Business Saturday is a grassroots, non-commercial campaign, which encourages consumers to 'shop local' and support small businesses in their communities. It takes place each year on the first Saturday in December, but the campaign aims to have a lasting impact on small businesses.

Championing local businesses is something we’re extremely proud of here at NB and have years of experience supporting local enterprise across Scotland. We work with a number of independent retailers, who produce and sell their products on the high street and online, helping them to market everything from knitted teddy bears to craft ale. That’s why we’re encouraging everyone to get behind Small Business Saturday, to spend their money in their communities and support their local economy, rather than multinational corporations. With Kirkwall and Lerwick – two of our main client bases – coming winner and runner-up, respectively, in a recent poll to find Scotland’s most beautiful high street, it really is a good time to get out and about to support your local towns.

Commenting on Small Business Saturday, NB managing director David Nicol said: “Earlier this year NB was listed in the UK’s Small Biz Top 100, a celebration of the UK’s top small businesses. As an agency, we have a long track record of helping small local businesses to compete and prosper, particularly through selling online. We aim to continue to support the ‘shop local’ ethos, and we want to see more small businesses raise their ambitions and strive to compete against bigger and more aggressive competition.”
