About NB Communication

We are a Scottish digital marketing agency serving clients throughout the UK.

We value clarity, doing things well, and paying attention to the right details. Our focus is on strategy, and this plays a large part in the design process. We never start a new website design project without fully understanding the clients’ needs and putting an effective plan in place.

Demand for our services continues to grow, and we’d love to add an exceptional new designer to our team.

We’ve already got a great amount of experience in working with designers from all over the world, so we don’t mind where you’re from. Our teams in Lerwick and Edinburgh will be on hand to communicate with your regularly and effectively.

What We Need

We are looking for a skilled and creative designer, with experience designing conversion-focused websites and apps which generate measurable results.

You must have a strong portfolio of attractive, creative, professional and highly-effective website designs. Experience designing mobile apps would be a great advantage too, as would the ability to deliver excellent corporate identity design work.

You should have a good all-round knowledge of:

  • Responsive design.
  • UX, UI and visual design concepts.
  • Suitable design tools (primarily Adobe Photoshop).
  • Search Engine Optimisation.
  • Conversion Rate Optimisation.
  • Wireframing.

Furthermore, a passion for continually learning new skills and technique is essential. You should have a creative mind, capable of coming up with truly special ideas.

You must be skilled at giving the necessary attention to the correct details.

You must have excellent communication skills, as you’ll be working closely with our team of experienced project managers, HTML/CSS coders, and web developers.

You must be self-motivated and have the ability to work fast and to solve problems. As a busy agency with numerous projects underway at any given time, we have to respond to challenges quickly.

The Position

You will primarily work on website design projects but may also be asked to get involved in mobile app designs, as well as creating graphics for various things such as social media, newsletters, and banner ads.

You will work closely with our project managers to create a design perfectly tailored to a client’s needs. We’ll provide you with a great starting point by carrying out in-depth digital strategy with the client, giving you a clear blueprint from which to work from.

We’ll also expect you to be closely following design trends and developments and will look for your input on how to integrate these with our work. We’d be keen to receive expert design advice on new projects during the strategy phase.

Our clients come from a wide range of industries and sectors, so every job is a different experience.

Initially, you will handle individual projects as and when required, but we would hope to move to a full-time model if and when appropriate.

You may also work on redesigns or modifications to existing sites from our portfolio, as well as potentially tackling a range of smaller design tasks as and when required.

We don’t mind where you are based. We’re used to working with suppliers from all over the world. If you are able to come and join us here in Scotland, that’d be great.

However, we are perfectly comfortable working with people remotely- geography is certainly not a barrier. We would prefer you to work 9-5, UK time, but will consider all possibilities.

Application Process

We’re keen to learn about your experience, and we definitely need to see some examples of your work.

We like our designers to have their say in a project too. We understand that you’re the one with creative flair.

Based on the above, we have a few simple requirements if you’d like to be considered for a role in our team.

Please email us at [email protected] with the following information:

  1. Please tell us a little bit about yourself, what your background in web design is, and where you are from.

  2. Tell us about your favourite web design project that you’ve worked on. Why do you consider it to be your strongest work, and why was it an enjoyable project to work on?

  3. Share a link to one or two other projects you’ve worked on, which you’re proud of and would like us to see.

  4. Please have a look through the Portfolio and Case Study sections of our own website, and highlight some designs of ours that you like. What do you like about them? If you were the lead designer on that project, what may you have done differently? (Many examples of our work are available to view on our website).

  5. Please tell us a bit more about your typical hourly rate for some of your recent projects. We understand that this may vary from client to client, but any information you can provide here will allow us to make a quicker decision on your application.

(We will NOT be able to consider your application if you do not provide answers to the above questions).

We look forward to hearing from you.
