Alistair MacDonald joined NB's core team as a Web Developer in early 2026, bringing deep knowledge and experience that allowed him to hit the ground running. If you've reached out to our support email, the chances are you've already received his support. We thought it was well past time we put him in the hot seat and subjected him to the time-honoured tradition of our meet the team questions.

Tell us a surprising fact about yourself…
I run game servers for all kinds of games, and I’ve been doing this from a young age. So I’ve always had great experience in providing good service and ensuring that everything stays online!
What are your top three life highlights…
I would say my life highlights have happened in the last few years.
- I moved into my own property.
- I got married to my lovely wife.
- Adopting the cutest dog.
Have you ever been told you look like a celebrity?
Apparently, I used to look like Tom Felton (Draco from Harry Potter). Not sure I agree with that though!
What did you want to be when you were a child?
I’ve always had a technical leaning whilst growing up (and a bit of a menace dismantling things around the home) and wanted to get into making computer games
What are your most overused words or phrases?
I say, “So on and so forth” way too much when I am speaking about something!

What is the favourite aspect of your job?
Working with a wide range of technologies and learning new and interesting ways of building websites and other applications.
What is the most important personal attribute that you bring to your job?
I would say that I’m quite curious and like to question what buttons do or why things are designed in such ways, and if there can be any better or more automated ways to solve them to reduce the need for repetitive work.
What tech innovation has made the most impact on your life?
Definitely auto-correct because my spelling skills are quite bad!
What would you name your boat if you had one, and why?
Hard to decide because I’m a bit of a history nerd and love reading about ships from history. Perhaps it should be called “Odysseus” after my dog!
How would you convince someone to visit the place you love the most?
I certainly love the mountains in the Highlands where I live. Climbing the mountains and seeing the breathtaking views.
You're a part of the core NB team based in the Scottish mainland. What do you like most about remote working?
I live in a fairly rural area, so not needing to commute daily to the nearest city for work is a huge bonus.
