Neil Riddell

Project Manager

Neil joined the NB team in April 2022 as a project manager and is based in Lerwick.

He has two decades’ experience working as a journalist in the Scottish media including several years with The Shetland Times and Shetland News. His work has also been published in a range of national outlets including The Guardian, The Times and The Scotsman, as well as numerous specialist music publications.

He graduated from Stirling University in 2006 with a first class honours degree in politics before completing a journalism diploma at Napier University. After spending a year with The Scotsman he moved home to Shetland in 2007 and has accumulated 15 years’ experience working primarily for The Shetland Times, Shetland News and BBC Radio Shetland.

Neil’s work has also been published in a range of national outlets including The Guardian and The Times, as well as numerous specialist music publications.

Since 2011 he has been involved in organising and promoting over 150 live music events in Shetland through the non-profit community group Ragged Wood, working with a host of prestigious, award-winning roots musicians from the UK and North America.

Neil brings a range of copywriting, social media and public relations skills to NB, having done communications work for businesses ranging from touring musicians to politicians and food and drinks businesses.

Outside of work Neil is a keen runner, and a big fan of travelling, cats, vinyl LPs and most importantly spending time with his young family.
