Matthew Leask

Account Executive (Edinburgh)

Matthew is responsible for the day to day running of NB’s Edinburgh office, and has been since its opening in January of 2016.

Matthew first experience with NB was in 2013, when he undertook a 2-month work placement as part of his studies at Robert Gordon University. During this time, he carried out the initial marketing research which would form the basis of NB’s plans for further expansion to the UK-mainland over the coming years.

Upon graduating in May 2014, Matthew immediately returned home to Shetland to begin working as a project manager with NB, a role which he held for the next 18 months. With an increase in opportunities from the British mainland, coupled with NB’s desire to further expand, Matthew relocated to Edinburgh and set up a 2nd base for the company in the city’s tech incubator, CodeBase.

While retaining many of his project management responsibilities for Edinburgh-based clients, Matthew’s focus of work has also shifted to sales and the marketing of NB to a wider audience. His presence in the city has allowed us to win jobs with bigger organisations that by being purely based in Shetland, we may not have had the opportunity to work with.

Since founding the Edinburgh office in 2016, Matthew has had key roles in some of our biggest projects to date. He successfully managed the MTI Ventures project, regularly liaising with their marketing team in Edinburgh before travelling to London to present a pitch of strategy and designs to the business’s major shareholders. Following the MTI project, Matthew also worked heavily alongside the marketing department of one of the country’s largest legal firms, Harper Macleod, to produce two new websites to support their estate agencies in Shetland and the Highlands.

During his time in Edinburgh, Matthew has also struck up a close relationship with other agency partners in the city, including Resolve Creative, and has regularly joined their team to allow collaborations on bigger projects with a wider scope of work than NB could have taken on from its Shetland base. As the Edinburgh team grows, Matthew’s role will likely become more and more focused on winning more work of a higher value to NB, and ensuring that the company is well recognised in the city and beyond as one of Scotland’s top digital agencies.

Outside of work, Matthew makes the most of not having to pay extortionate airfares to get off of Shetland anymore and enjoys travelling – recent destinations include Spain, Italy, France and the United States. While a little closer to home, Matthew can usually be found enjoying live music, with some recent gig highlights including St. Vincent, Mac DeMarco, The National and Bon Iver.
