David Gifford became a full-time Web Developer/Project Manager at NB Communication in 2009, having worked at NB at various times since 2004. Over the years - since his first websites in the late 90s - David has helped hundreds of clients to plan, build and improve their online presences.
Highly experienced in all stages of the full web-development process, David is an advocate of making websites as accessible and easy to use as possible. David also enjoys using the art and science of fine tuning websites for fast page load times, and optimising them for search engine listings.
David was the project manager and lead developer at NB for the Shetland.org website - a large and complex site containing a huge amount of information promoting Shetland. David was responsible for the interface and bespoke coding required for the 60 North content platform on Shetland.org, tackling a multitude of technical challenges to deliver a system which offers webcams, online radio, ‘TV channels’ videos, online magazines, and much more. David’s interfaces on Shetland.org are used by hundreds of thousands of people every year.
The Shetalnd.org consolidation project also involved migrating in-depth information about walking and cycling routes, maps, listings, and much more. David managed this process, and has extensive experience which will be of particular relevance to the orkney.com project. He was also closely involved in a similar consolidation project for Shetland Arts, where several stand-alone sites were merged into a single new site for the organisation as a whole.
David studied Law and Politics at Edinburgh University, graduating with MA(Hons), LLb, DipLP. Away from the computer, David enjoys getting outdoors to photograph wildlife and landscapes. You can see some of his highly acclaimed photos on his photography website, www.davegifford.co.uk
