We're lucky up here in Shetland to have a fantastic range of music on offer all year round. There's the inaugural Shetland Folk Festival, Fiddle Frenzy, the Accordion and Fiddle Festival and the Shetland International Guitar Festival which last year saw Martin Taylor and Tommy Emmanuel grace the stage at Mareel for gigs and workshops. In between there are plenty of one-off shows across a range of genres to suit every taste.
On 3rd August, straight after their slot at Cambridge Folk Festival, we are in for another musical treat. Punch Brothers play their own unique blend of contemporary bluegrass music with a full and folky sound that has captured fans all over the world since their formation in 2006. Their front man, Chris Thile, is widely regarded as one of the best mandolin players in the world.
They have recently released their fourth album, 'The Phosphorescent Blues', which will no doubt play a large part in the upcoming tour dates. Thanks to the organisation of Neil Riddell (Ragged Wood Promotions), the show in Shetland will take place in Mareel on 3rd August and we at NB are proud to be sponsoring the event.
