With our Shetland headquarters overlooking Lerwick Harbour, NB Communication is understandably excited about the return of the Tall Ships Races to the port.
That’s why we were delighted to sponsor the event and play an important role in marketing Tall Ships Lerwick 2023.
NB’s involvement in planning for the event began when we took on responsibility for building a new website. That was an exciting project for us, and you can read more about it here.
In 2022, we were thrilled to become one of the sponsors and to be appointed as the agency leading communications and marketing for international event's return to Lerwick. It is a pleasure to be associated with such a nigh-profile occasion that means such a lot to the Shetland community.
Our comms work for Tall Ships Lerwick began with promotion of a "12 months to go" celebration, which was used to trigger interest in the event. For the event to be successful it was important to start building anticipation among the local community, but also to make businesses and organisations aware of the importance of the event and help attract their support.
In July 2022 we worked alongside host port sponsor SSE Renewables and Shetland Tall Ships Ltd (STSL) to host an awareness-raising event and to begin the countdown to the event's opening.
From then on NB has worked closely with the event organisers issuing regular press releases, raising awareness of the event, and sharing important information with the public via the Shetland, regional and national media. Our experienced team also helped STS prepare key documents to help in their search for official photographers, videographers and drone pilots.
NB's role also involved coordinating the media coverage of the event, overseeing media accreditation and building positive relationships from major outlets including the BBC, STV and others
We were delighted to attract interest from BBC's The One Show, and worked closely with their production company to arrange interviewees and access. The show was broadcast on 28th July 2023 and can be viewed on the BBC iPlayer (starts at 14m30s).
And we worked hard to forge links with heraldscotland.com, so their news site could host the event livestream extending the reach and awareness of the event much beyond Shetland's shores.
As the event gets under way our team is still busy liaising with the local and visiting media to secure the best possible coverage for Tall Ships Lerwick.
